Parents of Athletes: Set An Example For Your Kids
“Set an example for your kids” is advice from “20 Ways to Prepare Young Athletes for Success in Sports and in Life,” by Eric Cressey.
9. Set an example. Kids model parents’ behaviors, including work ethic, attention to detail, punctuality, and a host of other factors. I love it when parents come in to train at the same time as their kids at our facility – and the kids do, too (contrary to what parents usually assume). In my experience, the parents who find a way to participate in some way in the child’s learning or training process add a familial / relational dimension for the child and increase their likelihood of success. If you don’t know how to go about this, ask your child’s coach for a recommendation.
